About the Work

My project is titled Giant Shells, made up of 3 large scale interpretations of shells made entirely from rebar. The shells and their pearls are symbols of life and regeneration, reflecting the evolution of life from the sea.

About the Artist

I am an artist and handyman from El Salvador. My artwork is almost exclusively made of steel, and whenever possible, found metal materials. I aim to find and use all the scrap metal there is to be had in the neighborhoods of NYC I live and work in. I take pleasure in finding forms in nature and interpreting them in metal. I love the organic surface texture rows and rows of rebar and threaded bars can achieve. I make sculptures, sometimes large public installations and sculptural lighting. www.pedrovillalta.com
