About the Artist
Hugh MacDonald trained in commercial art at SUNY Farmingdale, focusing on illustration. After learning metal fabrication through his work in the trades, MacDonald began creating sculptures and drawings inspired by Alexander Calder’s wire works. For more than four decades the artist has exhibited steel and stainless steel sculpture throughout New England. For the past twenty years MacDonald has specialized in working with stainless steel; he appreciates that it is low maintenance and has a striking visual quality. The artist enjoys creating organic shapes from hard industrial materials and bringing a touch of humor to his work.
