Paul Baylock
Factory Windows
2018
Factory Windows is a sculptural installation comprised of original windows from the Landers, Frary & Clark factory in New Britain, Connecticut that the artist acquired while renting a studio in the abandoned factory. The sculptural installation reflects the industrial past of Connecticut. During the early part of the 20th century, New Britain was known as the "Hardware City” and the "Hardware Capital of the World.” Major manufacturers, such as Stanley Tool, Fafnir, Emhart, and Landers, Frary & Clark were headquartered in New Britain, producing tools that were sold worldwide. The artist sandblasted, painted and altered the window frames inserting motifs in cutout panels that honor the worker and the tools produced by their labor.
